The Kano State Police Command has prosecuted 600 of the 873 people apprehended for destroying and stealing government and public property during the #EndBadGovernance protests in Kano.
Salman Dogo Garba, the State Police Commissioner, told reporters on Monday that the #EndBadGovernance protests were detained on charges of criminal conspiracy, inciting disruption, riot, theft, damage, and burning.
He stated that 150 individuals were punished for breaching the Kano State Government’s curfew and that an additional 6 suspects related to the demolition, setting ablaze, and looting of the Kano Printing Press (KPP) are being investigated.
“We arrested and transfer of seventy-six (76) suspects flying Russian flags, including a foreigner to Force Headquarters, Abuja for discreet investigation on charges of sedition and arrested 41 suspects for other major crimes including armed robbery, kidnapping, car theft, and other crimes,” he said.
Dogo revealed that the Command had recovered two AK-47 exhibit rifles and other valuable items seized by the hoodlums from the Audu Bako Secretariat NCC Office, High Court Complexes, Kano Printing Press (KPP), Super Markets, and other devastated locations.
However, the Police Commissioner stated that, despite the issues faced by the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, no lives were lost, adding, “We are not aware of any lives lost during the problems.”
He claimed the Command detained four abduction suspects and five armed robbers, eight suspected auto thieves and two human trafficking suspects, and 23 suspected thugs (Yan Daba).
“We have recovered four AK-47 Rifles and One (1) Beretta Pistol, 47 live ammunition, Eight (8) motor vehicles Four (4) sacks containing Exol Tablets and Two (2) Bajaj Boxer Motorcycles.”
In addition, the Command recovered 22 cows, 15 sheep, and four donkeys.
