The Enugu State Police Command has announced the arrest of six individuals in a series of targeted operations aimed at combating armed robbery and cult-related activities within the state.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the arrests were made during separate missions and led to the recovery of firearms, illicit drugs, and other incriminating evidence. All suspects remain in police custody as investigations proceed.
This development is part of the command’s sustained effort to eradicate violent crime and dismantle cult networks operating in Enugu.
The first operation, conducted by the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad in the early hours of August 22, led to the apprehension of four male suspects.
Law enforcement recovered one firearm, an expended cartridge, substances believed to be methamphetamine (commonly known as ‘Mkpuru-miri’), and other related exhibits.
Their capture was facilitated by intelligence from a separate suspect already in detention at the Abakpa Division, who had been arrested for cultism, armed robbery, and illegal possession of a firearm. Preliminary investigations indicate that two of the suspects are members of the Black Axe Confraternity, while the other two admitted to belonging to the Vikings Confraternity.
In a second operation on August 19, police operatives, in collaboration with the local Neighbourhood Watch Group, arrested a 48-year-old male suspect in the Ogor-Affa area of Udi Local Government Area.
A locally made pistol was recovered from this individual, who also confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity. The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Giwa, has reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to purging the state of criminal elements.
He further encouraged the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant, urging citizens to report any suspicious behaviour or activities to the nearest police station or through the provided emergency contact numbers.
