The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command has arrested Obinna Nwigwe, 33, for reportedly killing his friend, Andrew Philemon, after an altercation at Najob Guest House in Abuja’s Bwari region.

In a statement released on Tuesday, FCT Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh characterized the occurrence as a worrisome incidence of violent criminality.

She stated that the event occurred on December 26, 2024, when police officers reacted to a distress call reporting a shooting.

According to the FCT Police PRO, when they arrived at the site, they discovered 29-year-old Philemon seriously injured from a gunshot wound.

According to the statement, Nwigwe, who was equipped with a pump-action rifle, said the shooting was self-defense when the debate became heated.

Adeh said:

“Police officers swiftly responded to the distress call and arrested Obinna Nwigwe at the scene. A search of his residence later revealed a shocking cache of weapons.”

The search yielded a cache of weapons, including five Dane guns, one English-made single-barrel gun, an AK-47 magazine containing 29 rounds of 7.62 live ammunition, four live cartridges, 17 spent cartridges, a bow with arrows, various knives, a sword-stick, a toy gun, a taser, a bulletproof jacket, and several sets of police uniforms and boots.

Adeh further stated that Philemon is presently undergoing treatment at the National Hospital in Abuja, while Nwigwe remains in detention until the outcome of investigations.

The FCT Police Command underlined its commitment to combating violent crime and guaranteeing the safety of people.

Tunji Disu, the FCT Police Commissioner, emphasized the need for community engagement in sustaining security.
