After weeks of strike action over many demands made by the union, the Gombe State Government and the state university chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU, have agreed to stop the strike.
Recall that on September 11, 2024, the state university ASUU announced a complete, comprehensive, and indefinite strike that stopped all academic activities?
At the executive council meeting on Thursday, which was chaired by Governor Inuwa Yahaya, a total of N947 million was approved after a series of discussions with the state government. This amount was intended to balance staff promotions and earned academic allowances or EAA.
Since all the necessary equipment has been put in place for the university’s reopening, academic activities are scheduled to resume in a few days following this most recent breakthrough in addressing the situation.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau expressed optimism that the truce, achieved through signing agreements by both sides, will increase cooperation and allow for continuous teaching and learning at the state-owned institution.
