Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has stated that former First Lady Patience Jonathan backed him, but that the ex-first family did not influence him politically.
He appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday.
Wike praised Jonathan for naming him Minister of State for Education from July 2011 till April 2014.
He said:
“It would be unfair before the Almighty God to say that Patience Jonathan never supported me, it will be unfair. I don’t have the blood to say somebody who supported me did not, no, I would not.”
Wike also stated that he has no regrets for his activities against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 presidential race.
By declining to back Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential nominee at the time, Wike allegedly participated in anti-party actions, refuting the charge against him.
He said that the only things he favoured were justice, equity, and fairness.
In the presidential race, I declared my support for justice, equity, and fairness. I’m going to back my party in the other one, which is why we won the National Assembly and gubernatorial elections.
According to him:
“For presidential, I have no apologies because I don’t believe in injustice. Today people say ‘discipline Wike, he did anti-party.’ I did not do anti-party.”
