Former Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil has weighed in on Barcelona’s prospective move for Fenerbahce attacking midfielder Arda Guler.
Before the 2023–2024 season, Barcelona has been negotiating a contract to acquire Guler after edging out Real Madrid in the competition for his services. Deco, the sporting director for Barcelona, has taken a flight to Istanbul, Turkey, to finalize the terms of an agreement with Fenerbahce to trigger Guler’s €17.5 million release clause.
Despite Real Madrid and other European teams showing continued interest, Barcelona remains hopeful that they will finalize a transaction within the next few days.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Ozil has counselled Guler against making such a significant move at this point in his career because he is still developing in Turkey.
The former Germany international called the 18-year-old star to persuade him to stay in Turkey for one more year and assess his options.
Ozil was Guler’s former Fenerbahce teammate.
