I don’t understand coalition of Atiku, Amaechi, Obi, El-Rufai — Orji Kalu

Abia North Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has expressed confusion over the newly formed opposition coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-minister Rotimi Amaechi, former governor Nasir El‑Rufai, and Peter Obi.

Speaking from Umuahia after visiting Governor Alex Otti, Kalu, a longstanding member of the All Progressives Congress, said that although he considers all four leaders as friends and even family, he cannot comprehend the purpose behind their alliance.

Kalu began by acknowledging his connections with each of the coalition’s principal figures.

He said Atiku is a close friend, Amaechi is a trusted ally, Obi is his brother-in-law, and El‑Rufai is like a brother. Despite these ties, he stated that their decision to group to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027 eludes his understanding.

By contrast, Kalu reaffirmed his path by declaring his support for the APC’s vision.

“What I understand is that APC is on course,” he said, adding that he has “many triggers to pull out for APC.” His remarks signal a firm commitment to backing the ruling party and ensuring Tinubu’s reelection.

During the same visit, Kalu also praised Governor Alex Otti, describing him as a brother and lauding the strides his administration has made. He noted that he lives within an hour of the state capital and appeared impressed by progress in Umuahia.

Reflecting on the political scenario, Kalu emphasised that while he respects his relationships with Atiku, Amaechi, Obi, and El‑Rufai, he will not abandon his political convictions.

Senator Orji said he is not interested in joining opposition efforts, particularly those he does not fully understand, reaffirming the APC’s position as the country’s dominant political platform, claiming it to be “the largest party in Africa”.
