The Lagos State Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has secured the conviction of Ijamulisi Ayodele James for his involvement in producing falsified documents used in fraudulent UK visa applications.

The case stemmed from intelligence provided by the British High Commission, which uncovered forged invitation letters, introduction letters, bank statements, and payslips purportedly issued by Clarivate Analytics and Thomson Reuters.

During the trial, the ICPC prosecution team, led by Yvonne William-Mbata, revealed that investigations confirmed the defendant prepared the fraudulent documents at the request of Dennis Adetoye Adeniran and Awoke Nimota Omobolaji, both previously convicted in related cases in 2019 and 2025.

The defendant was arraigned before Justice R.A. Oshodi at the Ikeja Special Offences Court on August 7, 2025, on four counts of forgery under Section 467 of the Criminal Code Act.

James pleaded guilty to all charges as part of a plea bargain agreement approved by the ICPC. The court convicted him and imposed a fine of N1 million per count, totalling N4 million, with an alternative of seven days’ imprisonment per count to run concurrently.

The defendant was also ordered to undergo biometric registration in the Lagos State Judiciary Offenders’ Database and submit an affidavit of good behaviour to the High Court Registry.

The ICPC warned that it retains the right to reopen investigations if the convict violates the terms of his agreement or if new evidence of corruption emerges. This conviction underscores the commission’s commitment to combating document fraud, safeguarding international travel processes, and enforcing accountability under Nigerian law.
