Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has given commercial drivers a 72-hour deadline to remove tinted windows from their vehicles or face strict legal consequences.
The directive was disclosed in a press statement issued by Oguwike Nwachukwu, the Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, and circulated to journalists.
According to the statement, Governor Uzodinma has instructed law enforcement agencies to work alongside government officials in enforcing the order once the 72-hour grace period expires.
Nwachukwu explained that the decision was prompted by numerous reports linking tinted commercial vehicles, particularly buses, to criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and hit-and-run incidents across the state.
“Following recent intelligence reports, it has become clear that many of these tinted commercial buses are being used for unlawful acts. Therefore, all drivers operating such vehicles must remove their tinted windows within 72 hours or face the full wrath of the law,” the statement read.
The Chief Press Secretary emphasised that security operatives have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive and collaborate with designated government personnel to curb the rising crime rate associated with these commercial vehicles.
He also warned that any driver found flouting the order after the deadline will be apprehended and prosecuted as a deterrent to others.
