Nigeria’s hopes for the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers have suffered a setback as Ashleigh Plumptre, key player for the Super Falcons, has been ruled out due to injury. The news was confirmed via Falcons X handle on April 1, 2024.
In her absence, Jumoke Alani steps in, having already joined the camp for the crucial qualifiers against South Africa. Alongside Alani, Rasheedat Ajibade and goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi have also arrived, bolstering the squad’s depth.
The first leg of the qualifiers is scheduled for April 5, with the second leg set for April 9. Meanwhile, South Africa, the reigning African champions, have arrived in Abuja and commenced their preparations with a training session.
The Super Falcons are aiming for their first Olympic appearance since the 2008 Beijing games, and despite this setback, they remain determined to secure their spot in Paris 2024.
