The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced the withdrawal of the UTME result of Anambra pupil Mmesoma Ejikeme, as well as imposing a three-year ban on her from taking future examinations. This decision comes after the board considered the “weighty infraction” committed by Ejikeme and followed its established procedures, as stated in a press release on Tuesday, July 4, by JAMB spokesperson Benjamin Fabian.

JAMB emphasizes that the result presented by Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma is unequivocally fake. The board reassures Nigerians that its system remained untampered and uncompromised. Further clarifying that the candidate falsified a copy of a result slip belonging to Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle, who took the UTME in 2021 and scored 138. Ejikeme inadvertently revealed the rightful owner of the result she claimed as her own. She mentioned that the QR code on the result slip displayed the actual owner’s information before distorting the truth.

To validate the board’s position and expose the falsehood, the public is urged to scan the QR code on the result slip to view its true owner before it was manipulated. The QR code encapsulates each candidate’s UTME result. This means the information displayed on the result sheet corresponds to the data contained within the code.

Moreover, JAMB points out that it ceased issuing Notification of Result slips after the 2021 UTME due to instances of falsification by candidates. Instead, since 2022, the board has provided actual UTME RESULT Slips that include the candidate’s photograph. It is noteworthy that out of all the candidates who sat the 2023 UTME, only Ms Ejikeme Mmesoma is presenting the outdated “Notification of Result.”

JAMB remains undeterred by this unfortunate incident.

They claim it is not the first time fraudulent claims of this nature have been made. The board references previous cases where it was sued for billions of naira. However, the claimants and their legal representatives later issue profuse apologies. Particularly after the candidates confessed to their crimes amidst irrefutable evidence and public scrutiny.

The matter has been referred to relevant security agencies for a thorough investigation. Hopefully to uncover the masterminds behind this latest fraudulent scheme. JAMB welcomes public scrutiny and is prepared for an open public session involving the listed agencies and other security bodies, where the candidate, her parents, guardians, and legal team will be present.

The board also expresses concern over the involvement of certain nefarious elements, who appear determined to lead the candidate down an unproductive path. JAMB urges these individuals to reconsider their actions, as their deceitful intentions will soon be exposed. The board reaffirms its readiness for genuine scrutiny and asserts that the truth will ultimately prevail.

JAMB advises the public to critically examine the issue at hand and avoid the dissemination of fake news. As a result of Ejikeme’s serious infraction, JAMB’s management has withdrawn her 2023 UTME result. They have also implemented a three-year ban on her from participating in the board’s examinations.

Meanwhile, Mr Romanus Ejikeme, the father of Mmesoma has come forward with his own allegations.

He claims that certain individuals are attempting to obstruct the N3 million scholarship secured by his daughter from Innocent Chukwuma, the Chairman of Innoson Motors.

In an interview with Leadership newspaper, Ejikeme emphasized his daughter’s exceptional academic prowess. He further dismissed claims that she manipulated her results. He shared that Mmesoma consistently attained the first position in her class, starting from nursery school to secondary school. Her father proudly showcased her remarkable intelligence and dedication.

Hailing from Oduma in Aninri local government in Enugu state, the family resides in Uruagu, Nnewi. Mmesoma’s academic achievements garnered recognition even beyond her school, as she represented Oba Girls’ Secondary School in various competitions. Such was her impact that when she changed to Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, her former teachers from Oba Girls’ appealed to Ejikeme to retain her in their institution. They recognized her contributions to enhancing the reputation of their school.

Ejikeme vehemently refuted the allegations surrounding his daughter’s UTME score manipulation, expressing his belief in her integrity. He voiced suspicions that certain individuals aim to transfer the scholarship to another recipient, prompting them to contest Mmesoma’s results. He attested that it was her friends who first discovered her score online and informed her. This led her to subsequently print out the results, which they currently possess as evidence.

The ordeal has taken an emotional toll on Mmesoma, leaving her feeling deeply saddened and occasionally shedding tears. Particularly after her visit to the commissioner of education. She was subsequently taken to the Department of State Services (DSS) office.
