England midfielder Jude Bellingham has told manager Gareth Southgate where he would prefer to play following his starring role in the Three Lions’ 3-1 victory over Scotland.
Bellingham scored a goal as England defeated Scotland at Hampden Park in a friendly match on Tuesday.
The Real Madrid star was also involved in the build-up to Phil Foden’s opener before scoring minutes later and rounding off the night with an assist for Harry Kane. Bellingham, who plays in a more advanced role as No. 10 at Real Madrid, was deployed by Southgate to play in a similar position against Scotland.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Bellingham told Channel 4:
“I was not happy with how I played against Ukraine [on Saturday]. It was not anywhere near my best, and the motivation is always to get back to your best. I got somewhere close tonight.
“I know it depends on the system we play, and we’ve got so many amazing players to accommodate, and so the team comes first always. I really enjoyed playing in that [same] position today.”
