The Department of State Services, DSS, has stated that the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, is currently not in its custody.
Soon after President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele, reports of his detention surfaced.
According to a statement from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Emefiele’s suspension was-
“sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.”
Additionally, Tinubu named Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as the Central Bank of Nigeria’s interim governor. However, the DSS said in a tweet sent out on Saturday stated that the expelled CBN Governor is not in its custody.
The tweet reads-
“Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
