The Kano State Government has announced the arrest of 632 protesters accused of vandalising public infrastructure and theft as the state’s hunger strike continues.

Protesting youth were singing anti-government songs and waving Russian flags, were observed at Dakata, Rimin Kebbe, State Road, Under Bridge, and other sites.

Speaking in Kano, the Governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, stated that the 632 arraigned defendants were arrested for damaging public properties.

Tofa emphasised that the Kano State Government’s commitment to preserving peace and order is unwavering, and that anyone found guilty of vandalism will face the consequences.

He went on to say that the state government intends to give huge training programs for adolescents in various trades to encourage self-reliance and reduce their chances of being exploited to disrupt peace and order.

The spokesperson also announced the formation of a special committee of inquiry to probe individuals responsible for the deaths and looting of public facilities around the state.

The commission would also investigate the underlying reasons for killings and damage of public structures, he stated.

He underlined that the protestors holding Russian flags were not linked with the government and encouraged security services to investigate who was behind them and their motives.

He said that real protestors in the state have filed grievances and demands with the government, which he said will be transmitted to President Bola Tinubu.
