The Kano State Police Command has launched a major crackdown on thuggery and other violent crimes, with the Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, ordering immediate raids on suspected criminal hideouts across the state.
The move comes as part of renewed efforts to restore peace and security in Kano, where thuggery and gang-related violence have been on the rise.
CP Gumel emphasised that the police will not tolerate any form of lawlessness, warning that anyone involved in criminal activities will face the full wrath of the law.
He directed officers to conduct thorough operations in identified hotspots, particularly areas notorious for harbouring thugs and other criminal elements.
The police chief also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information to aid in the arrest of suspects.
The crackdown follows recent incidents of violence linked to political thuggery and rival gang clashes, which have raised concerns about public safety.
Gumel assured residents that the police are committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring a safe environment for all.
He further stated that community engagement and intelligence gathering will play a key role in sustaining the fight against crime.
Residents have expressed mixed reactions to the police operation, with some hopeful that it will bring lasting peace, while others remain sceptical, citing past security measures that yielded little result. Nevertheless, the Commissioner of Police has vowed to sustain the momentum until criminal activities are significantly reduced in the state.
