Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State paid a solemn visit to the Mantau community in Malumfashi Local Government Area on Wednesday.
The community is recovering from a devastating bandit attack that occurred the previous Tuesday, which resulted in the tragic death of 32 worshippers during prayer time.
Reports indicate that 20 individuals lost their lives inside a mosque, while 12 others were killed outside the building.
The assault also included the burning of approximately 20 houses and the initial abduction of 76 villagers. Fortunately, a swift response from the Nigerian Air Force led to the successful rescue of all those who had been abducted.
Speaking to the community after offering his condolences, Governor Radda described the scene as utterly heartbreaking, noting the presence of newly orphaned children, destroyed homes, and families in profound distress.
He assured the victims that the state government would systematically address their needs and challenges.
The governor revealed that the assault was a reprisal attack, triggered after community members had bravely repelled an earlier bandit incursion, during which seven bandits were killed and their weapons seized.
As immediate support, Governor Radda announced a relief package of five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) for each affected household.
He also issued directives for the State Ministry of Works to assess the Mantau road immediately and outlined plans for the construction of a new school and hospital, alongside the renovation of the mosque and the rebuilding of all destroyed homes.
Reiterating his administration’s top priority, the governor affirmed an unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of all citizens, stating that security is a matter of humanity, not politics.
