Katsina State Police Command successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued eleven abducted victims during a fierce gun battle with armed bandits.
The operation occurred in a rural community where criminals had stormed a residential area, seizing several individuals before security forces intervened.
According to police authorities, officers responded swiftly to distress calls and engaged the kidnappers in an intense firefight that lasted nearly an hour. The bandits were eventually overpowered and forced to flee, abandoning their captives. All eleven rescued victims, including women and children, received immediate medical attention before being reunited with their families.
Katsina Police Commissioner commended the bravery of the officers involved while reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He revealed that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry in the state, which has seen increased security deployments to vulnerable areas.
Local residents praised the police response but appealed for more security presence in remote communities frequently targeted by criminals. The police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing bandits and called on the public to provide useful information that could lead to their arrest.
This successful operation comes amid persistent security challenges in northern Nigeria, where kidnapping for ransom has become prevalent. Security analysts emphasize the need for improved intelligence gathering and community policing to effectively address the threat of banditry across the region.
The Katsina police have assured residents of continued vigilance and proactive measures to prevent criminal activities.
