The Kebbi State Government has officially announced the appointment of Sanusi Sami as the new Emir of Zuru.
This decision follows the passing of the former emir, Sani Sami, who held the title of Gomo II.
The late emir died on August 16 in London after a brief illness, creating a vacancy on the traditional stool.
Governor Nasir Idris gave his formal approval to the appointment on Thursday, acting on the recommendation put forward by the kingmakers of the Zuru Emirate.
The official letter of appointment was presented to the new emir in a ceremony held in Zuru, overseen by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Dutsin-Mari.
The selection process involved a thorough screening of three eligible candidates by the emirate’s kingmaking committee.
Following this process, Sanusi Sami emerged as the preferred candidate, having secured the highest number of votes from the kingmakers.
Commissioner Dutsin-Mari emphasized that the selection reflects the collective will of the people of Zuru and carries the endorsement of the state government.
During the presentation, the commissioner urged the new emir to embrace the responsibilities of his office with a commitment to fairness, justice, and the fear of God.
He also called on the people of the emirate to extend their full support and loyalty to the new traditional ruler to ensure a peaceful and prosperous reign.
The appointment marks a new chapter for the Zuru Emirate, and the government expressed confidence that Emir Sanusi Sami will provide the leadership needed to foster unity and development within the community.
