Kwara government clarifies purpose of new construction project in Ilorin

Kwara State Government has officially refuted claims about constructing a new Government House in Ilorin, describing such reports as misinformation.

The clarification came during Tuesday’s official handover of a construction site to Mapet Construction Ltd. for new office buildings adjacent to the Deputy Governor’s Office.

Dr. Segun Ogunsola, Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, emphasised that the project aims to create additional workspace for civil servants rather than serve as a new government residence.

“There is no plan to build a new Government House. These are office blocks designed to improve working conditions and service delivery,” Ogunsola stated during the ceremony.

The planned one-storey structure will feature multiple office spaces, a conference room, and other functional facilities to accommodate government workers. According to the commissioner, this initiative reflects Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to providing decent work environments that enhance productivity.

Ogunsola explained that the new offices would address current workspace shortages and modernise government operations.

He assured residents that the ministry would closely monitor the project to ensure timely completion within the 12-month deadline while maintaining quality standards. The commissioner specifically directed the contractor to strictly adhere to approved specifications throughout the construction process.

The government’s statement comes amid circulating rumours about the project’s purpose, which officials have now categorically dismissed.

The development forms part of the administration’s broader infrastructure improvement program aimed at creating efficient workspaces to support effective governance across the state.
