The Kwara State Government has commenced the construction of new office complexes designed to improve working conditions for civil servants and enhance service delivery across the state.
The project, located adjacent to the Deputy Governor’s Office in Government House, Ilorin, was officially launched on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunsola.
The development comes days after the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleged plans by the state government to build a new Government House – a claim Dr. Ogunsola firmly denied.
“This project is strictly about providing adequate and befitting office spaces for government functionaries, not constructing a new Government House as being speculated,” the commissioner clarified during the groundbreaking ceremony.
The one-storey structure will feature multiple office spaces, a conference room, and other modern facilities to create a conducive work environment. Dr.
Ogunsola emphasised that the project aligns with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s commitment to improving government operations and extending democratic dividends to both urban and rural communities.
The Housing Commissioner assured residents that the ministry would closely monitor the contractor to ensure timely completion within the 12-month deadline while maintaining quality standards.
“These new offices will address existing gaps and meet contemporary standards for efficient governance,” Ogunsola stated, urging the contractor to adhere strictly to project specifications.
The project forms part of the administration’s broader infrastructure development agenda, which prioritises creating functional workspaces to boost productivity in the state’s civil service. Officials maintain that the initiative will ultimately translate to improved service delivery for Kwara residents across all sectors.
