The national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has stated that the party will use the upcoming Anambra State governorship election in November to assess its readiness for the 2027 presidential election.
Abure made the remarks on Sunday in Awka during a forum organized by the party’s Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI), where aspirants interacted with delegates ahead of Saturday’s primary election.
Represented by the Labour Party national women leader, Dudu Manuga, Abure emphasized the party’s growth and determination to secure victory in Anambra as a precursor to 2027.
“We want to use Anambra to test what 2027 will be. The Labour Party has grown beyond a briefcase party—we are now fully established in all states of Nigeria, including Abuja. We are preparing not just for Anambra but for 2027,” he said.
He called for unity after the primaries, urging members to work together for victory in November.
“After the primary election this Saturday, no one should hold onto grievances. We must unite and work collectively to win the main election. Let us remain strong, resolute, and united—nothing will be impossible for us to achieve,” he added.
The forum aimed to foster engagement between aspirants and the electorate, with Abure expressing confidence in the party’s grassroots mobilization strategy.
Two governorship aspirants, George Moghalu and John Nwosu, attended the event and presented their manifestos.
Moghalu highlighted the erosion of public trust in government as a major challenge in Anambra.
“The people no longer have confidence in the government. Security has collapsed, and thugs are being used to enforce tax collections. If the government operates transparently, citizens will pay taxes willingly—modern methods like electronic tax collection should be adopted,” he said.
The Labour Party’s focus on the Anambra election signals its strategic preparations for a stronger performance in the 2027 general elections.
