The Lagos State House of Assembly has called upon ride-hailing companies, including Uber and Bolt, to address the growing crisis in the transportation sector.
The summons comes amid increasing complaints from both drivers and passengers over issues such as fare hikes, unfair commission rates, and service disruptions.
Lawmakers expressed concerns that the ongoing disputes could negatively impact the state’s transportation system and economy if not resolved promptly.
During a recent plenary session, members of the assembly emphasised the need for dialogue between ride-hailing platforms and their drivers to find sustainable solutions.
Drivers have reportedly raised grievances over high commission fees, which they claim significantly reduce their earnings, while passengers have complained about inconsistent pricing and poor service quality.
The assembly warned that failure to address these issues could lead to stricter regulations or sanctions against the companies.
Representatives from Uber, Bolt, and other affected firms are expected to appear before the assembly to provide explanations and propose measures to resolve the crisis.
The lawmakers also indicated that they may review existing regulations governing ride-hailing operations in Lagos to ensure fairness and accountability.
This development follows months of tension between drivers and ride-hailing platforms, with some drivers staging protests to demand better working conditions from Uber and Bolt.
The Lagos State government has previously intervened in similar disputes, underscoring the importance of a stable and efficient transportation network in Nigeria’s most populous city.
