Liverpool is set to match Chelsea’s £55 million offer to secure the signing of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, in an effort to strengthen their squad after facing a setback in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo.
The 19-year-old Belgium international had been the focus of advanced talks between Chelsea and Southampton, with the Blues looking to bolster their midfield ranks.
Lavia, who joined St. Mary’s last summer for £14 million, proved to be a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing season for Southampton, contributing with a goal and an assist across 35 appearances in all competitions.
Liverpool’s interest in Lavia has been evident throughout the summer, as they made three unsuccessful attempts to secure his signature.
After their initial bid of £45 million was rejected, Liverpool is now prepared to increase their offer by an additional £10 million to avoid losing out to Chelsea.
This move comes as Liverpool also faced a setback in their pursuit of Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, who appears to be favoring a move to Chelsea.
As transfer negotiations continue, Liverpool aims to secure Lavia’s talents and reinforce their squad for the upcoming season, demonstrating their determination to compete at the highest level.
