Tragedy struck in Lagos state on April 24, as a man simply identified as Babatunde died inside a Bolt cab. According to family sources, the deceased had booked the ride-hailing service through the app. He resided in Osapa London in Lekki and booked a trip to Ikate.
The Bolt driver arrived at his residence around 2 pm and began the journey to his destination. However, Babatunde reportedly began shouting, “My heart,” during the trip. This prompted the driver to rush him to two different hospitals, but unfortunately, he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Following the incident, the driver immediately reported the matter to the nearest police station. They further contacted the family of the deceased. Babatunde’s corpse has been deposited at the IDH General Hospital mortuary while the police carry out an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his sudden death.
The tragic incident has sparked concerns about the safety of ride-hailing services in Nigeria. Many are calling for more stringent regulations and background checks on drivers. It’s a stark reminder of the need for caution when using such services, as unforeseen circumstances can occur at any time.
