Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, has said that a considerable number of illegal firearms now in circulation in Nigeria were once owned by the federal government.
Ribadu made the statement on Thursday at a weapons destruction exercise hosted by the National Centre for the Control of Small weapons and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) at Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Abuja.

He said that the firearms got up in the hands of non-state actors as a result of corruption inside security services.
The National Security Agency denounced security professionals that enable the trafficking of firearms to terrorists, outlaws, and other non-state actors.
Ribadu promised that the administration will do all necessary to protect the country’s security.
