The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced a series of significant arrests across multiple states, culminating in the seizure of large quantities of illicit substances.
Among those detained is a 75-year-old man, Uchelue Ikechukwu, who was arrested in Anambra State for alleged drug trafficking. He was caught with 26.7 kilograms of skunk during a raid in the Umudioka area of Dunukofia Local Government.
The operation in Anambra led to the arrest of five additional suspects in the Nkwelle and Amichi regions, where various quantities of opioids and skunk were confiscated.
In a separate operation in Taraba State, a 30-year-old man, Alfa Andrew, was arrested at his extensive 71.5-hectare cannabis farm located in the Mayodoga forest. A Dane gun was recovered from him, and approximately 178,750 kilograms of cultivated skunk were destroyed on-site.
Further successes were recorded in Kaduna State, where officers intercepted a fuel tanker concealing 104,900 capsules of tramadol, allegedly destined for insurgents in Borno State.
The driver was taken into custody. Another suspect was apprehended at a checkpoint in Zaria with over 34 kilograms of skunk.
In Maiduguri, a major supplier of illicit opioids was arrested with a substantial cache of tramadol pills, rohypnol tablets, and nearly eight million naira in cash.
Other interceptions included arrests in Nasarawa, Adamawa, and Ekiti States, where large quantities of tramadol, diazepam, codeine syrup, and cannabis strains were seized.
Concurrently, NDLEA commands across the country are continuing their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaigns, conducting advocacy programs in schools, communities, and workplaces.
The agency’s Chairman commended the officers for their efforts and urged them to intensify both enforcement and public education initiatives.
