In a recent turn of events, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has stepped forward to dispel rumors surrounding the position of Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum. Contrary to reports circulating in local media, the NFF has clarified that Waldrum remains at the helm of the Nigerian women’s national team.
The confusion stemmed from a press release by the NFF regarding plans to reconfigure coaching setups for various women’s national teams, including the Super Falcons. While this announcement raised questions about Waldrum’s future, NFF boss Ibrahim Gusau has assured that the coach is not being replaced.
“We have given the Technical Committee the go-ahead to hold talks with Randy Waldrum as we consider an extension of his current contract with the NFF,” said Gusau, emphasizing the coach’s achievements, including leading the Super Falcons to the Round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Waldrum’s tenure, which began in October 2020, has seen notable accomplishments, such as qualifying for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations and securing a spot at the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Despite public disagreements with the NFF on various issues, Waldrum’s coaching abilities have been evident on the world stage.
As discussions continue regarding a contract extension beyond September, Waldrum remains committed to steering the Super Falcons towards future successes.
