Following an unfortunate stampede at a Christmas celebration in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, numerous children lost their lives. The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, or NGF, has expressed sadness over the deaths.
According to reports, the stampede claimed the lives of over 30 children and injured several others, including the organizer, the former wife of the Oni of Ife, and the head of the school where the tragedy took place.
An inquiry into the terrible occurrence has also been ordered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The NGF Vice Chairman, Governor Seyi Makinde, the victims’ families, and the people of Oyo State were all sent condolences by the forum.
In a statement issued by the chairman of the forum, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq said:
“We join in this national mourning and our hearts are with everyone concerned, especially as the festive season begins!
“We join Mr President to call for the immediate probe of the stampede to forestall the reoccurrence of such sad incidents in any part of the country,” according to a statement by the forum on Friday morning.
“We pray that God gives solace to the bereaved families and rest the souls of the little children that we lost in the incident.”
