Niger State Governor, Umar Mohammed Bago approved the immediate payment of N25 billion to meet the pension and gratuity obligations owed to the state’s retirees.

Bago made this announcement during the commissioning of 200 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, an initiative that would improve transit in the state capital of Minna.

The governor then issued an order exempting students from paying transport fees anytime they board the new buses, with the obligation placed on civil personnel and security services to pay half of the fares.

He also gave the order to promote every state employee who is eligible for one with immediate effect. He said nothing, though, about the minimum wages given to workers.

Along with launching the 200 CNG buses, he also unveiled 50 security agency patrol cars and 50 garbage disposal vehicles, and he pledged to buy a another 600 buses in the upcoming six months.
