The Nigerian Army has announced the successful dismantling of a notorious bandit camp in Angwan Bala, Kambari area of Karim Lamido Local Government, Taraba State.
According to a statement released on Monday by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, the operation was carried out on February 2, 2025, by troops of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS).
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected bandits, the troops launched a targeted patrol to the identified hideout. Upon sighting the security forces, the criminals opened fire, prompting a swift and decisive response. In the ensuing gun battle, one bandit was neutralized, while 23 others—comprising 19 males and 4 females—surrendered without further resistance.
A thorough search of the camp led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including:
– Four AK-47 rifles
– Five AK-47 rifle magazines
– 80 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
– One English-made pistol
– Two locally fabricated guns
– 28 cutlasses
– 16 motorcycles
– 48 daggers and jack knives
Preliminary investigations revealed that the bandits, originally from Plateau State, had paid a local chief in Amar village the sum of ₦1.5 million to establish their base in the area.
Reacting to the success of the operation, the Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to securing Taraba State and its surroundings.
“This operation demonstrates our unwavering resolve to eliminate criminal elements and restore lasting peace. We will continue working with relevant stakeholders to sustain the fight against insecurity,” General Uwa stated.
