Controversial Nigerian televangelist Timothy Omotoso is set to be deported from South Africa following the conclusion of his high-profile criminal trial.
The pastor, who faced multiple charges including human trafficking and sexual assault, has been at the centre of a legal battle that has spanned several years.
Omotoso, the leader of the Jesus Dominion International church, was arrested in 2017 after allegations surfaced that he and his co-accused exploited young women under the guise of religious mentorship.
The case drew widespread attention, with survivors testifying about alleged abuse and manipulation within his church operations.
After a lengthy trial, the court dismissed some charges due to procedural delays but convicted him on others, leading to the deportation order.
South African authorities confirmed that Omotoso, whose visa has been revoked, will be repatriated to Nigeria once all legal formalities are completed.
Immigration officials stated that his removal aligns with the country’s laws regarding foreign nationals convicted of serious crimes.
The decision has been met with mixed reactions, with some applauding the move as a step toward justice, while others express concern that deportation may deny survivors full accountability.
The Nigerian government has yet to comment on the matter, but sources indicate that Omotoso may face further legal scrutiny upon his return.
