Minister of Communications and Culture, Lai Muhammed has disclosed that the National Population Commission is seeking approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on purchasing software costing N2.8 billion.
Muhammed stated this in his briefing to state-house correspondents after the FEC meeting on Wednesday in Abuja.
To provide an update on the reason for the postponement of the National Population Census earlier proposed for March 29, 2023, the Minister said the Governorship and House of Assembly elections scheduled for March 18 as a reason for the new date.
He added,
“They (National Population Commission) sought the council’s approval for a contract to procure software for the census at N2.8bn”.
The federal government had earlier announced May 2023 as the new date for the census.
