The Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has demanded N2.5 billion in compensation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a raid on its facility on August 10.

The management stated that the amount is to cover the severe damage caused to the reputation, business, and financial standing of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as well as the library itself.

According to reports, EFCC operatives from the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 stormed the OOPL Rounda fun spot around 2 a.m. during a “Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza” party.

The raid resulted in the arrest of 93 youths, the seizure of 18 vehicles, and the confiscation of mobile devices. The library’s management described the operation as a “Gestapo-like” invasion led by an officer identified as “Olapade,” involving over 50 armed men who allegedly fired shots, threatened lives, and caused chaos among attendees.

At a press conference on Wednesday, the Managing Director of OOPL, Vitalis Ortese, demanded immediate compensation for those arrested and whose vehicles were taken, as well as N1 billion for bodily injuries sustained during the incident.

He also insisted that the EFCC and the Nigeria Police Force issue separate public apologies across major media platforms. Ortese accused the agencies of acting maliciously, violating fundamental rights, and deliberately tarnishing the reputation of the library and its chief promoter, former President Obasanjo.

The OOPL legal team, led by Olumide Ayeni, SAN, stated that evidence, including a recovered beret and bullet shells, confirmed indiscriminate shooting during the raid. The library warned that if its demands are not met within seven days, it will pursue legal action. The EFCC has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
