In a press conference following his historic win as the CAF Player of the Year, Victor James Osimhen, the Super Eagles forward, addressed the recent viral TikTok video that seemingly mocked him, clarifying that he was not mistreated by his club, Napoli.
Osimhen, who recently became the first Nigerian to win the CAF Player of the Year award since Nwankwo Kanu in 1994, spent a successful 18 months with Napoli, securing the Scudetto, the Capocannoniere award, and the AIC award. Despite placing 8th in the Ballon d’Or rankings, he went on to clinch the prestigious CAF Player of the Year title.
The 24-year-old striker dismissed the viral video as a “stupid mistake by an individual” within the club and emphasized that it didn’t reflect the treatment he received from Napoli or its president. Osimhen expressed gratitude for the support he received, particularly from the club’s president, and stated his intention to move forward.
Days after being crowned African Player of The Year, Osimhen showcased his prowess on the field, contributing a stylish back-heel goal that propelled Napoli into the UEFA Champions League knockout stage. The player now looks ahead to the future, leaving the video incident behind him.
The Napoli forward acknowledged the club’s swift action in dealing with the responsible individual and expressed satisfaction with the resolution. With his focus on upcoming challenges, Osimhen aims to put the incident firmly in the past.
