Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, has directed a quick re-evaluation of the current workers’ audit throughout the state public service. Governor Adeleke reiterated his administration’s dedication to simultaneously advancing and safeguarding workers’ interests.
This step was taken after state employees left the staff audit event on Thursday.
The Adeleke government had hired experts to conduct the audit, and the workers complained about how the consultants treated them.
In the meantime, Governor Adeleke instructed the joint committee in charge of the exercise to resolve all contentious issues and devise workable solutions for a smooth exercise in a speech to a collective gathering of union leaders and the auditing company on Thursday afternoon.
Adeleke urged the Head of Service to adjust the protocols and guarantee the safety and comfort of the employees. He also expressed unhappiness at the disruption the exercise caused public workers.
The Governor also instructed the joint committee to develop ideas for decentralizing the exercise and to create a new schedule that would consider the diversity and uniqueness of the ministries and agencies.
“I have read a lot of comments and complaints from the public service. I have also listened to you all at this meeting. We must adjust the procedures to have a mutually acceptable exercise. We should all remember the purpose of this audit exercise which is to block leakages to expand staff welfare.
“To that extent, the joint committee should meet urgently to decide on two items. First, a new acceptable timetable should be created that will take into account the diversity and peculiarities of each government agency or ministry.
“Secondly, the committee should also brainstorm on decentralization of the exercise on zonal basis to reduce the burden and logistics of movements to the capital city,” the governor ordered.
Governor Adeleke pleaded with all parties to guarantee the program’s successful conclusion.
He said any anti-labour action is off the table due to his government’s alliance with and kinship with the labour movement.
Adeleke said, “Let all stakeholders go back to the drawing board and make necessary adjustments. This is a government in love with labour, workers, artisans, women, youth and others.
“We will never act against the best interest of the public servants.”
