Nigerian music executive and show promoter Paulo Okoye has addressed allegations made by singer Spyro about his time under Okoye’s record label.
Spyro, in an interview with Echo Room, alleged that he struggled financially during his contract and had to take loans to sustain himself. He also criticized Okoye’s ability to manage a record label, while acknowledging his excellence in show business.
Responding via Instagram, Okoye dismissed these claims and presented receipts showing he spent N12 million on Spyro. Okoye emphasized that despite this investment, he did not profit from the artist. His daughter Vanessa also weighed in, slamming Spyro for being ungrateful and quick to criticize someone who had supported him.
Spyro, however, clarified in subsequent posts that he remains appreciative of Okoye for putting him on the music map. He highlighted the challenges faced by upcoming artists in the industry, noting his own struggles, including being treated poorly by some label staff and enduring difficult times. While expressing gratitude for Okoye’s role in his career, Spyro maintained that the label’s shortcomings affected him deeply.
Vanessa Okoye reiterated her father’s integrity, describing how their family values focus on excellence and legacy rather than engaging in controversies.
Spyro, now a celebrated artist, has since achieved success, including purchasing properties for himself and his family. Reflecting on his journey, the “Who Is Your Guy” singer has urged upcoming artists to invest in themselves and not rely solely on record labels for success.
