Peter Obi, the former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, paid a visit to Afe Babalola, SAN, a renowned Nigerian lawyer in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Obi had asked Babalola to take into account the “situation” of Dele Farotimi, a human rights attorney who is now being held on remand at the Ekiti jail.
Since Babalola asked the police to detain Farotimi, he has drawn harsh condemnation from a number of Nigerians.
Farotimi was given N50 million bail by the court on Monday, along with an equal amount for a guarantor.
Obi, however, has made the decision to attempt mediating between the two attorneys.
Moses Paul, a social activist, shared photos and videos of Obi’s trip to Ado-Ekiti on X along with the following words:
“Today, Mr. @PeterObi traveled from Lagos to Ekiti State, dedicating the entire day to meaningful engagements.
“He visited Aare Afe Babalola at his office within the Afe Babalola University, where they had in-depth discussions on critical issues, including the situation of activists and lawyer @DeleFarotimi.
“Following this, Mr. @PeterObi proceeded to the prison facility where @DeleFarotimi is being held.
“In a private meeting, he expressed solidarity and engaged in a candid exchange aimed at addressing the prevailing challenges.”
