Peter Obi’s exit from ADC could end his political career – Party youths

A youth group within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned Peter Obi that his reported plan to exit the ADC coalition if he fails to secure the party’s presidential ticket could damage his political reputation and career.

The warning came in a statement issued on Tuesday by Comrade Abayomi Bello of the ADC Youth, which expressed concern over the potential consequences of such a decision.

The group questioned whether Obi’s spokesperson, Mr. Tanko, had the authority to make statements suggesting his possible departure. They emphasised that Obi has cultivated a strong public image as a principled leader committed to youth empowerment and national progress.

According to them, abandoning the coalition for personal ambition would contradict the values he claims to uphold.

The statement also reminded Nigerians of Obi’s history of switching political parties, having moved from APGA to PDP, then to the Labour Party, and now potentially leaving the ADC.

The group warned that such frequent movements could make him appear as just another self-serving politician, undermining the trust of his supporters. They stressed that successful political coalitions require patience, collaboration, and sacrifice, and urged Obi to remain within the ADC to foster unity and strengthen the opposition.

Rather than quitting, the youth group advised Obi to stay and play a leadership role within the coalition. They suggested he focus on mentoring young leaders, shaping the party’s direction, and building a lasting political legacy.

The statement cautioned that leaving prematurely could lead to political isolation, weaken alliances, and disappoint young Nigerians who are already disillusioned by a fragmented opposition.

In conclusion, the ADC Youth urged Obi to prioritise the collective good over personal ambition, warning that a hasty exit could erode his credibility and harm his long-term political prospects.
