President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday for Accra, Ghana, to attend the inauguration of John Mahama, President-elect, on January 7.
“Tinubu’s trip to Accra is at the invitation of the president-elect, who had visited the Nigerian leader earlier in December,” Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced this in a statement released on Sunday.
He takes over President Nana Akuffo-Addo (2017–2025).
Onanuga said, “Mahama and President Tinubu have a longstanding personal relationship, just like Nigeria and Ghana maintain a longstanding bilateral relationship.”
Tinubu, who serves as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, will attend the ceremony among other African leaders.
Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and other top government officials will join the President on his second visit to Ghana.
The inauguration is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Ghana, with discussions anticipated on regional security, economic cooperation, and other mutual interests.
President Tinubu’s attendance underscores Nigeria’s commitment to supporting democratic processes in neighbouring countries.
The event is also seen as an opportunity to enhance diplomatic ties and explore avenues for collaboration in various sectors, including trade, education, and technology.
