Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has stated that Nigeria’s future hinges not only on competent leadership but also on substantial investment in quality education and healthcare systems.

He made these remarks during a speech celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Archbishop Charles Heerey College of Health Sciences and Technology in Nkpor, Anambra State.

Obi highlighted the critical shortage of health professionals currently facing Nigeria, noting that while this is a global challenge, it is particularly urgent within the country.

He emphasised the need to train more competent personnel to meet the rising domestic demand and to equip Nigerians to compete effectively in the international healthcare sector. Addressing the matriculating and graduating students, he urged them to take their studies seriously and to view themselves as potential global citizens capable of making meaningful contributions both at home and abroad.

Reflecting on his tenure as governor of Anambra State, Obi pointed to education as the most transformative investment a nation can make.

He expressed pride in encountering graduates of the institution who are now excelling in countries like the United States and the United Kingdom, tracing their professional journeys back to the foundational training they received in Anambra.

Peter Obi concluded by calling for a national commitment to investing in people through robust educational and health institutions. He argued that building capacity in these key areas is fundamental to achieving the common good and securing a prosperous future for all Nigerians.
