The Nigerian Senate has passed the 2025 budget of N1.485 trillion for Rivers State, following deliberations on the fiscal proposal.
The budget, which outlines the state’s projected revenue and expenditure for the coming year, received legislative approval after a review by the Senate Committee on States and Local Governments.
Key allocations in the budget focus on infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and security. A significant portion is earmarked for road construction, rehabilitation of public facilities, and initiatives to boost economic activities in the state.
The budget also includes provisions for social welfare programs aimed at alleviating poverty and improving living standards for residents.
During the debate, lawmakers emphasized the need for prudent implementation to ensure that the allocated funds translate into tangible benefits for the people of Rivers State. Some senators called for strict oversight to prevent mismanagement and ensure transparency in the execution of projects.
The passage of the budget comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen fiscal responsibility at both state and federal levels.
Rivers State, being a major economic hub due to its oil and gas resources, requires substantial funding to maintain its infrastructure and drive development. The approved budget reflects the state government’s priorities in addressing critical challenges while fostering sustainable growth.
With the Senate’s approval, the Rivers State government is expected to commence the implementation of the budget in line with the state’s development agenda. Observers will be monitoring the utilization of funds to assess its impact on the state’s economy and the welfare of its citizens.
