The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has ordered the Committee on Special Duties to investigate the Department of State Service (DSS) agents’ alleged invasion of the National Assembly complex on Wednesday. This was because some irate lawmakers threatened to impeach the principal officers, which was widely shared on social media.
This was even as Akpabio refuted the accusations, calling them false, and claimed that he became aware of the issue during the plenary.
He called on the committee, which is led by Senator Shehu Kaka of the APC Borno Central, to conduct the probe immediately and provide a report within twenty-four hours.
The president of the Senate bemoaned the slow appropriation of the media by bogus news.
Akpabio said:
“There is no limit to what online publications can do. This is total fake news and the impeachment of principal officers did not arise and we are all here in the National Assembly without any controversial issues.
“I learnt that they could click an AI and news will start trending to drive traffic and I am sure the traffic for this fake news is massive by now.”
