The Rivers State Government has strongly condemned the circulation of fake announcements falsely credited to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), describing them as deliberate attempts to mislead the public, cause panic, and disrupt the state’s peace.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Dede Sampson Friday, the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau, Office of the SSG, the government debunked recent reports claiming that the state’s Sole Administrator had summoned the suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, to give account of appointments made over the past two years.
The statement made it clear that no such directive was issued by the Office of the SSG, urging members of the public to disregard the false report and other similar misinformation.
Friday further described the fake announcements as the handiwork of mischief makers bent on destabilising the state. He warned residents to be vigilant and avoid falling for such fabrications.
The Rivers State Government reiterated that official information is disseminated solely through its verified channels — including the official state website, authorised social media platforms, press releases from the Governor’s Office and the SSG, and approved traditional media outlets.
Residents were also advised to verify the authenticity of any information before sharing and to rely only on credible government sources for accurate updates.
Rivers State has witnessed a troubling rise in fake news attributed to the Office of the SSG, with concerned residents calling for swifter responses and decisive actions against those behind the spread of such misinformation.
