Southern Kaduna’s Rungji village has suffered a death toll of 33 following the night attacks on Saturday. The Zangon Kataf Local Government Council Chairman, Francis Sani, confirmed the incident to journalists.
He said on Sunday that more than 40 houses in the village had been completely burnt down by the raiders, adding that seven people had injuries of varying degrees and were currently being treated in hospital.
Community members gave 33 victims of the attack a mass burial on Sunday.
Dr. Samuel Achie, president of the Atyap Community Development Association (ACDA), also confirmed the number of casualties killed and injured by the attackers.
At night, the attackers were said to have entered the community while the residents were sleeping.
They split into three groups and began firing sporadically, burning down the houses.
Previously, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the attack. However, he was silent on the number of casualties.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Southern Kaduna during this difficult time.
