The immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is systematically expanding on the governance framework established by his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.
Mustapha made these remarks during the public presentation of “According to the President,” a book authored by former presidential media aide Garba Shehu, held on Wednesday in Abuja.
Mustapha emphasised that both administrations demonstrate a consistent commitment to institutional governance rather than personality-focused leadership. He particularly praised Buhari’s approach to governance, noting, “President Buhari governed with duty rather than drama.
He was driven by principles, not applause.” The former SGF highlighted several landmark achievements from Buhari’s tenure that created what he described as “a broader architecture of inclusive development.” These include the passage of the Petroleum Industry Act, the execution of critical infrastructure projects, modernisation of military equipment, and the implementation of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP).
According to Mustapha, the current administration under President Tinubu has not only maintained these institutional reforms but is actively enhancing them across key sectors. He pointed to continuity in agricultural transformation, power sector improvements, educational reforms, and digital economy advancements as evidence of this progression.
The former government secretary’s comments underscore the strategic transition between the two administrations, portraying Nigeria’s governance as an evolving system rather than a series of disconnected regimes. His assessment positions Tinubu’s government as both a custodian and accelerator of reforms initiated under Buhari, suggesting a rare continuity in Nigeria’s often fractious political landscape.
