President Bola Tinubu has officially launched the construction of the access road to the Second Niger Bridge, linking Delta and Anambra states.
The 17.55-kilometre road, awarded to CCECC Nigeria Limited, will traverse several Delta State communities, including Issele-Azagba, Okpanam, Ibusa, Asaba, Okwe, and Oko-Amakun, before connecting to the bridge into Anambra State.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Monday in Oko, Oshimili South Local Government Area, with Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori representing the president at the event.
Speaking on behalf of Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori described the project as a crucial part of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving infrastructure, boosting economic activities, and enhancing connectivity in the region.
“Today marks another milestone in the Renewed Hope Agenda of this administration. The construction of the access road to the Second Niger Bridge is a testament to our commitment to providing critical road infrastructure,” Tinubu stated.
He recalled that while the Second Niger Bridge was inaugurated in December 2022, the lack of proper access roads had posed challenges for road users. The new project, handled by CCECC Nigeria Limited, seeks to address these issues.
“The access road we are flagging off today is a direct response to the challenges faced by road users. It is expected to improve connectivity, enhance road safety, and boost trade and economic performance, which the South-East region is known for,” the president added.
