US President Donald Trump on Wednesday declared that companies manufacturing their products within the United States will be exempt from tariffs.
Speaking at the White House Rose Garden while unveiling his long-promised tariff policy under his “America First” agenda, the 78-year-old Republican stated, “There’s no tariff if you build your product right here in America.”
He further urged foreign nations to eliminate their own trade barriers, warning, “Terminate your own tariffs, drop your barriers, don’t manipulate your currencies, and start buying tens of billions of dollars’ worth of American goods.”
As part of his trade strategy, Trump has already enforced a 10 percent tariff on all imports into the United States. Also, he imposed a 25 percent tariff on all foreign-made vehicles, as well as a 25 percent duty on imported steel and aluminum.
The US President had earlier announced that the new tariffs would take effect starting April 3.
