A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nurain Abayomi Mumuni, has cautioned Nigerians against using mobile phones near fuel tankers, warning that it could trigger explosions.
Mumuni issued this warning while sympathizing with Niger State Governor Umaru Bago and the residents of the state over the tragic fuel tanker explosion that claimed 73 lives at Dikko Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway on Saturday.
In a statement signed by his Media Aide, Rasheed Abubakar, Mumuni emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding fuel tanker safety. He urged citizens to report leaking or unsafely parked tankers to local authorities to prevent similar disasters.
“The use of mobile phones near fuel tankers can create sparks that may lead to devastating explosions,” Mumuni said, calling for enhanced literacy and safety consciousness among Nigerians.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and urged proactive measures to avert future incidents.
The Niger State tragedy has sparked renewed calls for stringent enforcement of safety protocols for fuel transportation across the country.
