Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has announced plans to recognise teenage scholar, Nafisa Abdullah, who excelled at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London. Seventeen-year-old Nafisa Abdullah, who topped the English Language category, and 15-year-old Rukayya Muhammad Fema, the competition’s overall best performer, will both receive state honours for their achievements.

The announcement was made through a statement by Imrah Muhammed posted on social media platform X on Tuesday. Abdullah, a Yobe State native, impressed judges with her exceptional English language skills at the international academic competition held in the United Kingdom.

The students’ accomplishments have drawn national attention, with former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Isa Pantami calling on President Bola Tinubu to honour Abdullah similarly to recent recognitions given to Nigeria’s victorious women’s football and basketball teams.

Pantami suggested the young scholar deserves a comparable national celebration for bringing pride to Nigeria through academic excellence.

Governor Buni’s decision to honour both students reflects his administration’s commitment to promoting educational achievement among youth. The recognition aims to inspire other young Nigerians to pursue academic excellence while celebrating the outstanding performance of these Yobe State representatives on a global stage.

The state government has not yet disclosed the specific form of recognition the students will receive, but the announcement has been widely praised as a positive step toward encouraging educational attainment in northern Nigeria. The honours are expected to be conferred in an official ceremony in the coming weeks.
