The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, or NSCDC, has deployed 28,300 men to appropriately safeguard Nigeria’s Critical National Asset and Infrastructure (CNAI) ahead of the Yuletide celebrations.
Afolabi Babawale, spokesperson for the NSCDC, announced this on Friday in Abuja.
Babawale revealed that the deployed agents were drawn from the crack squad, special force, intelligence department, anti-vandal, and other operations groups.
He pointed out that the deployment was required to prevent economic saboteurs from depriving the country of its riches.
According to the spokesperson, the operatives were assigned to find and defend hot points such as leisure centres, religious meetings, motor parks, retail malls, and other locations.
He explained that Ahmed Audi, the NSCDC Commandant-General, has entrusted all Zonal and State Commandants with improving their information-gathering tactics.
Audi cautioned state leaders to be vigilant in combating vandalism, as no instance of CNAI damage in any form will be permitted.
He said:
“This is our statutory mandate so all hands must be on deck as we approach the end of the year as you are aware criminal-minded persons often take advantage of festive seasons to perpetrate their nefarious activities.
“I therefore charge you to brighten your eagle eyes and reinvigorate your intelligence tactics as this would make you more proactive than reactive.”
NSCDC CG assured that the Christmas and New Year celebrations will go off without a hitch, while urged the people to provide reliable intelligence to the Corps and other security authorities so that suspected criminals may be arrested.
